Artifact of the Week - Magic Lantern

This week we have a Lantern Slide Projector. This one was made around 1900 and used by one of the local Masonic temples for some time before being donated to us in 1993.

Projectors like these are also known as Magic Laterns, or lanterna magica if you are feeling fancy. They date back to the 17th century, originally using candles and slides painting on glass.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
